Hamilton police say a lockdown at Bishop Ryan Catholic Secondary School has been lifted.

The school was placed in lockdown around 8 a.m. Monday after two threatening phone calls came into the school just as buses were arriving for the school day.

“I can’t go into the exact nature of the calls, there was a threat to bring a weapon into the school and harm teachers and students.” Supt. Will Mason, Hamilton police.

Students on those buses were immediately redirected to Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Elementary School. Some students who were in “non-classroom areas” including the cafeteria were escorted out of the building by Hamilton police while many others remained locked inside.

Shortly before 9 a.m., Hamilton police said in a post on Twitter “students are safe” and there are no reports of any injuries.

Members of the Hamilton Police Tactical Unit searched the building room by room. “To err on the side of caution we are moving slowly and methodically,” said Hamilton police.

Investigators say officers did not find any evidence to support the threat and students were released through the exits at the back of the building.

No arrests have been made in connection with the threats. Police are expected to hold a new conference at 1 p.m. to update the media.
