The City of Hamilton has released more information about COVID-19 vaccinations.

As per the province’s plan, the city has been administering vaccines to residents in long-term care homes and high-risk retirement homes as well as their staff and essential caregivers.

Healthcare workers and alternative level of care patients in hospital are also part of this first batch of vaccinations.

In an update provided Friday morning, city health officials say 26,082 vaccines have been administered to date. There are 9,550 people who have received both required vaccine doses.

“Every resident of Hamilton should be able to access a vaccine and that is what our teams are working towards with our local COVID-19 vaccine plan,” says Mayor Fred Eisenberger.

“I encourage everyone in Hamilton to be ready for their turn to be vaccinated as with every vaccine dose administered, the light at the end of the tunnel gets a bit brighter.”

The city says within the next two weeks, vaccinations will open up to:

  • Adults 80 and older
  • Staff, residents and caregivers in retirement homes and other congregate care settings for seniors
  • Health care workers in the High Priority level, and in accordance with the Ministry of Health’s guidance on Health Care Worker Prioritization
  • All Indigenous adults
  • Adult recipients of chronic home care

Registration and booking for this next group of people will be available in the next few weeks.

There are currently two vaccine clinics in the city, a mobile clinic and a large-scale fixed-site clinic. An additional clinic is opening next month.
