No injuries have been reported after a large fire at an industrial building in Hamilton.

Firefighters were called to Parkdale Ave., north of Barton St., around 5 a.m. Wednesday.

There was heavy smoke and flames coming out from the top of the building.

Crews began firefighting operations inside but had to back out because of concerns over the roof structure.

Fire broke through the roof as crews were getting out of the building.

By 6 a.m. the fire was brought under control. Crews are expected to remain on scene for most of the day.

Fire officials say the damage to the involved units is “significant” and includes a furniture business, a micro brewery and food wholesaler.

There is heavy smoke damage to the units on either side.

The Ministry of the Environment has been called to the scene.

The cause of the fire is not yet known. Dollar loss is expected to be in the millions of dollars.

Parkdale Ave. N was closed from Rennie St. to Goggin Ave. but has since reopened.
