Hamilton firefighters battle 2 overnight fires

Hamilton firefighters were busy overnight responding to two different house fires.
The first was on Herkimer Street just before 2:30 a.m. Nobody was home at the time, but the fire had spread to the second and third floors by the time crews arrived.
There was about $600,000 in damage. Luckily, firefighters were able to stop the blaze from spreading to neighbouring houses, and nobody was hurt.
The second fire took place about an hour later on Beland Avenue North.
Flames ripped through the two-storey home, causing about $150,000 in damage.
Nobody was home for the second blaze either.
The Office of the Fire Marshal has been called to help determine what caused the two fires.
