The Hamilton Fire Department has gone over its budget for a new radio system by nearly a million dollars.

The city had approved $23 million to replace the fire department’s old analog communications system.

Internal auditors have found the new radio system went over budget by more than $900,000.

Councillor Russ Powers called the overspending, “gross incompetence.” He says not just for going over budget, but also for how it remained under wraps for so long.
