A Hamilton couple has embraced the concept of “tiny living” and gave up their two bedroom apartment to live in a van.
When James Holmes suggested to his wife that they live in a van she didn’t take him seriously at first.
Zoe Siskos came around and the couple moved into a 2006 Dodge van after doing some renovations to it, like adding a bed, and a kitchen.
Living in 60 square feet of space is tricky and takes creativity.
Solar panels on top of the van, power their appliances.
“That allows us to be comfortable with our appliances. We still get to use laptops, music and lights, fans. Stuff like that.”
The couple, and their 9 year old scotty mix Spanky have been tiny living for a month now and are loving it.
“We want freedom to be able to change at the drop of a hat. Realistically we’re doing it day by day.”
Living in a van comes with it’s challenges like where to shower or wash clothes? Zoe and James have gym memberships so they shower there, and they wash their clothes at a laundromat when they’re dirty.
The van is equipped with a portable potty but they try to use public washrooms as much as possible.
