Hamilton cops cash not approved

After months of debate and revisions, the City of Hamilton still has not approved this year’s police budget.

City councillors want to meet with police Chief Glenn de Caire before April 4th to clarify some issues. At a time when the city has asked all departments to submit new budgets without any increase, the police budget came in with a proposed increase of more than 5%. After several revisions, the police chief is still asking for a budget hike of 3.71% to help hire additional officers. Council is still hesitating to approve the proposed increase.
