A Hamilton police officer has received a two-year demotion for not responding to a dispatch call for a quadruple shooting.

Constable Kyle Anders pleaded guilty to one count of discreditable conduct and one count of neglect of duty for not answering the call that came in near the end of his shift on April 16.

Anders, who was reportedly going through personal family problems at the time, was less than two kilometers away from the home where a triple murder-suicide happened in Stoney Creek.

Police say James Milroy, 37, shot and killed his girlfriend Aerlaena Smith, his brother Michael Milroy and his 70-year-old mother Gina Milroy before turning the gun on himself.

The demotion will cost Anders around $38,000 in lost salary and will be in effect for the next two years.
