A group of Hamilton-area business leaders is trying to raise $50,000 for St Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton by running in this year’s 121st Around The Bay Road Race.
St Joseph’s Healthcare Foundation is looking to raise $475,000 from this year’s race on Sunday, March 29th. Thousands of runners from around the world are expected to compete in what is the oldest road race in North America.
Carstar chief operating officer Michael Macaluso is part of a local group running the five kilometre portion of the race with a goal of raising $50,000.
Together our team represents a cross-section of Hamilton’s business community, and we’re all extremely excited to work together to raise $50,000 to support the great things that our hospital does. We know that every dollar we raise will be supporting the purchase of life-saving equipment, and funding the future of health care through research.”
“We can’t think of a better investment then the health of our community.”
Race director Mike Zajczenko says registrations are running behind last year’s, but he’s not worried.
“Out of the 9,000 spaces in the 30 k we have about 2,000 left; and in the 5 k we have about 1,000 left. We’ve still got two months to go, so we’re going to be filling them up no problem.”
Over the years the race has helped to raise almost $2 million to support patient care and research at St Joseph’s.
