Hamilton-Burlington SPCA saw record pet adoptions in December

The Hamilton-Burlington SPCA hit a three-year high for pet adoptions last month.

62 animals found new homes in December, and roughly 1,800 pets were adopted last year in total.

Last month’s numbers were only beat by the month of July, when 203 pets were adopted.

The SPCA believes a number of factors led to the holiday surge, including greater awareness of pet adoption.

“The increase in adoptions we owe to public media. We have been putting our good news stories out there and hoping to show people in the community what we do here and bring them out to our shelter and adopt from us,” says Shari Doering, Pet Encounter Therapy Coordinator.

The high number of adoptions is good news for pets at Hamilton Animal Services, who can now find spots at the SPCA shelter and hopefully find a new home.
