A 12-year-old Hamilton boy is in hospital with serious injuries after being struck by a car as he was waiting at a bus stop with his family.

Hamilton police say just before 6 p.m. Thursday, a 26-year-old man driving a Honda Civic made a left turn onto Gray Rd. near Highway 8 and struck a westbound Hyundai.

The collision sent the Hyundai onto the sidewalk and into a Hamilton Street Railway bus shelter where the boy was waiting with his mother, a 10-year-old girl, and a 9-year-old girl.

Police said the boy was initially rushed to McMaster Children’s Hospital with life-threatening injuries but has since been upgraded to serious, but not-life-threatening condition.

After going through all obtained surveillance footage, Hamilton police say a 35-year-old Hamilton woman who was making the left turn has been charged for failing to avoid a collision. Police say additional charges may be laid.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact them at 905-546-4753.
