Hamilton bike share program returns

Hamilton’s bike share program is now back on the streets.

The blue bicycles have been parked since June 1, after Uber pulled out of its contract early.

It left the city with a $400,000 tab to keep the program running.

Donations poured in to save the program after city council voted against funding it, including $100,000 from the McNally Charitable Foundation.

The re-launched system will be operated by Hamilton Bike Share Inc.

The system will continue to span from Ottawa Street to Dundas with over 800 bikes and 130 hubs.

26,000 people in Hamilton use the bikes.

To reduce the spread of COVID-19, Hamilton Bike Share is taking extra precautions, including regularly sanitizing surfaces when bikes are serviced.

Riders are being encouraged to follow public health guideline, practice hygiene and stay home when sick.
