Halton region is expanding COVID-19 vaccine eligibility to include people 65 and older starting Wednesday.

People born in or before 1956 will be able to book an appointment to get a vaccine at a one of the COVID-19 vaccination clinics in the region.

“We are continuing to make good progress to vaccinate our most vulnerable populations through our community clinics and mobile teams,” said Halton Regional Chair Gary Carr.

“While the vaccine program progresses, our incredible public health team is also working tirelessly to quickly identify and manage COVID-19 cases to keep our residents safe.”

Eligible residents can book an appointment online or call 311.

The region says there are appointments available in April and transportation is available to and from appointments.

On Friday, Halton started booking vaccine appointments for residents 70 and older.

A few days later, the province started offering the vaccine to that age group in certain regions, including Hamilton and Niagara.
