Halton Police seize 150 pounds of marijuana

(Update)
A massive drug bust by Halton police has put significant dent in the pot supply in Halton and Peel region.
One of the detectives with Halton Regional Police’s Drugs, Guns and Gang unit said that, in his roughly eight years with the unit, he has never seen a cultivated weed seizure this large before.
This drug bust was the culmination of almost two years of investigations targeting two drug dealers trafficking large amounts of marijuana in the Halton and Peel region.
On June 25th and 26th, Halton police executed search warrants at five locations in Milton, Burlington, Oakville and Mississauga. In all, 150 lbs. of marijuana was seized with a maximum street value of $680,000. Over 1 lb of hashish, two cars, $55,000 and several weapons were also taken. Both drug dealers were captured without resistance. 29-year old Julian Porretta of Milton was charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking. Jason Amaral, 28-years old from Mississauga was charged with one count of possession with the purpose of trafficking and three counts of unauthorized possession of weapons.
Detective Paul Foley said since they now have the drug dealers, their next move is to locate the supplier of the weed itself. They believe the pot was grown indoors. If anyone has any indication that they might have a grow-op near their home, they are encouraged to call Halton Regional Police or Crime Stoppers.
