Halton police nab impaired drivers

Halton police say they stopped and charged six impaired drivers overnight.

Friday, an Oakville officer stopped a woman for using her phone while driving downtown during a Tiny Tots event.

Also Friday, an Oakville traffic officer charged a G2 driver after being stopped doing 137km/h in a 60km/h zone.

The driver was summonsed for speeding and stunt driving & the vehicle, reported to belong to the parents, has been impounded & licence seized for 7 days.

Speed enforcement in Hornby nabbed a driver for going 121 in a 70 zone.  That vehicle was also impounded for 7 days.

Hamilton police listed 13 impaired driving incidents from 6:00pm Friday night to 6:00am Saturday morning on their media site.

In Brampton on Friday, 40-year old Ahmad Rihawi of Mississauga has been charged with impaired driving causing death, excess blood alcohol and driving while disqualified after a t-bone crash at Confederation Parkway and Burnhamthorpe Road at around 5:30am.

Sarwat Nazir, a married mother, was pronounced dead at the scene.  Rihawi was scheduled to be in Brampton court later on Friday.
