Halton police are asking residents in an Oakville neighbourhood to shelter in place for what they say is an “active investigation.”

Police say they received a call around 1:20 p.m of reports of possible gunfire in the area of Lakeshore Rd. W and Fourth Line. Police have not confirmed a firearm was discharged, but when they arrived two people were barricaded inside a home.

Police safety removed a woman from the home and crisis negotiators are in contact with the person who remains inside.

Appleby College was also been placed in hold and secure.

In a tweet, Halton police asked area residents to “immediately shelter in place in their basements until further notice.”

There is a heavy police presence in the area, including front-line officers, tactical rescue and K9 unit.
