Halton Police are trying to prevent bicycle theft

Police Services across Ontario are trying to get ahead of bike thefts.

Constable Frank Trasmundi with Halton Police says sometimes when people report their bicycle stolen, the owner won’t have the serial number. If that’s the case, police can’t return it or lay charges.

He says downloading the app ‘529 Garage’ can help people file a report.

“We will have picture of your bike, the serial number, and any distinguishing features so it will be easier for us to recover it if we find it.” says Trasmundi.

Halton Police recovers 200 bikes per year on average. Only about 10-15 of them are returned.
