Hagersville resident loses $400K in online cryptocurrency scheme

A Hagersville resident was defrauded of $400,000 after investing into an online cryptocurrency brokerage.

The suspected fraud began September 2021.

Police say the victim has not been able to retrieve their money from the investments.

The Haldimand Crime Unit is leading the investigation.

The Ontario Provincial Police is reminding the public to be vigilant by keeping an eye on all bank accounts and credit cards.

They also advise to never give out personal information to strangers and to verify all contact information an unknown person provides.

Victims of fraud are encouraged to report the incident to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre online or by calling 1-888-495-8501.
