A man is dead and three other people injured after a man opened fire in an apartment on Queenston Rd. in East Hamilton overnight.
One of the men seriously injured is the son of former Stoney Creek councillor and former MPP Brad Clark.
A source told CHCH News Clark’s son Brandon Thomas was shot in the back and remains in serious condition after undergoing surgery at a Hamilton hospital Sunday.
Police say shortly after 2 a.m. a gunman, now dead, walked into a third floor apartment at 484 Queenston Rd. and opened fire with a shotgun.
Neighbours describe hearing screams and gunshots and then seeing people running down down the street. A man who lives next door said he heard glass breaking and then screams coming from apartment 31, so his wife called 9-11.
Police say the gunman died from a gunshot wound.
The other injured man has been identified as Scott Morin, Thomas’ friend who lived in the apartment. He was allegedly shot at point blank range in the chest and abdomen.
Brad Clark, who also ran for Mayor in Hamilton’s last municipal election issued a statement on Facebook.
It reads: “Please pray for our son and his friend Scott, who met with tragedy early this morning”
CHCH News spoke with Hamilton Mayor Fred Eisenberger Sunday afternooon who confirmed Clark’s son was shot.
“All I’ve heard is that unfortunately he’s been shot in an incident here in the East end, and in serious condition in the hospital and we are all hoping and praying he’s going to be fine”
Two other visitors, a male and a female visiting the apartment jumped from the third floor balcony to escape the gunfire. The female sustained a lower body injured and is in hospital recovering.
Police are not looking for any more suspects and are still investigating the motive behind the attack.
They also would not say whether the victims and gunman knew each other.
A neighbour told CHCH News Police are also at an apartment on the second floor of the building, but there’s no indication it is related to shooting above..
