Group wants hike in Ontario minimum wage

A Hamilton group is telling the province to lift its freeze on the minimum wage.

The organization HOPE, or Hamilton Organizing for Poverty Elimination is delivering that message to Ontario MPPs by giving them blocks of ice. The frozen blocks each contain a $10 bill, and a quarter to symbolize the fact that Ontario’s minimum wage has been frozen at $10.25 for the past three years.

The group says the province’s minimum wage should allow everyone to live above the poverty line. It says that means an hourly pay of at least $14.
