5 teens are accused of allegedly sexually assaulting an 18-year-old woman. Today the 5 young men were in court for their bail hearing where the St.Catharines judge granted the young men freedom.
The accused teens who can’t be named under the youth criminal justice act had been in custody since yesterday. School resource officers helped Niagara police in arresting the 5 teens. Police say the 18-year-old victim was at a party in St.Catharines in August when she went with a group of boys to Thorold. That’s where it’s alleged she was sexually assaulted.
The courtroom was packed with family as the crown read the allegations against the teens. The accused were given strict conditions upon their release. Among them not having any contact with the other co-accused or the victim. The Niagara Falls teens also can’t use cell phones unless it is for school or work purposes. Authorities say all 5 suspects,4 17-year-olds and a 16-year-old were known to the woman.
All 5 teens are facing a total 10 charges including sexual assault. They’re expected to appear in court next month.
