Ontario health minister Eric Hoskins was in Burlington today, celebrating the groundbreaking of the new Joseph Brant Hospital.
The hospital signed with Ellis Don Infrastructure in December to build and finance the hospital’s expansion and re-development project. The $353.6 million dollar project will build onto the Burlington hospital, creating more single patient rooms.
Of the project Hoskins said, “we are practically building a brand new hospital.”
“When you look at the list of what is bring created through this new patient tower, as well as the renovations to the existing space, we are going building together a 7 storey patient care tower, with space for 172 beds; additional beds in the ICU; a modern emergency department, 9 modern operating rooms and a post-anasthetic care unit; an expanded cancer clinic, expanded ambulatory care program, a renovated special care nursery, expanded diagnostic imaging services and expanded and modernized labratory; (and) a new entrance.”
“All of those things when you add them up, it really is exceptional when you think what that’s going to deliver in a few short years.”
Construction is expected to be finished in the fall of 2018.
