Grits pledge to pay for all-day GO trains

Liberal leader Dalton McGuinty has pledged to pay the full cost to extend all-day GO Transit train service to Hamilton.

Mayor Bob Bratina says the Premier’s office has confirmed Ontario will pay the estimated $178-million capital cost to extend GO train service to Hamilton, including new stations at James Street North and at Confederation Park.

Bratina says he only received confirmation from the Premier’s office late Wednesday.

The announcement leaves in doubt provincial funding towards a future plan to install light rapid trains in Hamilton.
