Grimsby Fire Update

The fire in Grimsby has destroyed 4 local businesses and forced many others to close because of smoke damage. On Friday town officials met with those affected to inform them about the resources available during this difficult time.

4 businesses and 3 apartment units went up in flames Thursday afternoon at around 1:00 pm. Fire fighters worked for hours to extinguish the relentless blaze that began outside at the back of a hair salon. There was only one person living above one of the businesses, he wasn’t home at the time of the fire, but his two dogs were, they were safety rescued.

The damage is estimated to be over $2 million. The hair salon, yoga studio, print shop and computer store are destroyed. Some businesses nearby were also evacuated because the thick smoke spread quickly.

There were two meetings held Friday morning, one for near by residents and one for business owners affected. What was talked about is unknown the media was ordered to stay out.
