A sea of smoke took over the skies when fire engulfed a Grismby building this morning.

“The smoke was very high and it was black it was billowing up flames shooting out of a couple windows out there,” says one neighbour.

Police wouldn’t release the name of the company, just saying it was a small contracting company that built cabinets. Heavy equipment was needed to put out the flames. The cause is still unknown but the blaze caused $200,000 in damage.

“Under fire conditions the glue turned to flammable liquid you do not want to be breathing long tom exposure can be fatal,” says Grimsby fire chief Michael Cain.

Firefighters had to ask residents to close their windows, but even as the smoke died down residents were still worried.

This is the second fire on this property in the past few years. Back in 2004 another building on the property went up in flames, and neighbours nearyby want to see changes made.

“If they want to put a church or a park up that would be great but anything besides this really would be good to see,” says neighbour Michael Meijaard.

They want to see these industrial buildings gone for good.
