Gore Park, one of the most recognizable places in downtown Hamilton, is getting a face lift.

The section of the park between James Street North and Hughson Street is all fenced off. It’s the 2nd phase of of the cities redevelopment project which comes at a cost of 1.8 million dollars.

Construction crews are busy tearing up the park. They’re ripping out all the old concrete to replace it with new walkways.

The park is going to look more like Veterans’ place, which was phase 1 of the project.

Jeff Pidsadny, the Senior Manager of the project says the layout won’t be too different. It will just be newer and nicer. They’re replacing the lights, planting new flowers, tearing down old diseased trees and replacing them with many more new ones and making the whole area more pedestrian friendly.

The project is expected to take about four months to finish.

The entire section of the park will be closed until it’s completed.
