Tense moments on the Toronto-bound QEW in Niagara today, when a driver lost control of his car, it caught fire and three brave men stopped to help.

Some saying it was a life saving decision.

The quick action of three men is being attributed to saving the life of a Buffalo man who OPP say lost control of his vehicle, which rolled multiple times then his car caught fire.

It happened on the QEW at Gilmore road in Fort Erie around 9am on Saturday.

Two truck drivers on the Toronto-bound QEW saw the crash happen, stopped, jumped out of their vehicles and began to put out the blaze.

One of the drivers, Darren Martin from St. Catharines says he needed four extinguishers but still wasn’t able to fully put out the fire.

He says the driver was pinned by the steering wheel of the car and pleaded to be pulled out.

Martin, along with two others laid the man on ground. He was not seriously hurt which Martin described as a miracle.

Many now calling the three men heroes.

OPP Sergeant Kerry Schmidt says the driver has been charged with careless driving. He is in stable condition at a Niagara Hospital.
