As part of its plan to increase GO train capacity by 50 per cent over the next five years, the Ontario government unveiled some of its new train cars today.
Transportation minister Steven Del Duca says the new rail cars will have more passenger space and storage areas along with improved seating and better heating. GO Transit plans to increase weekly rail trips from 1500 to 6,000 over the next 10 years.
“I am pleased to announce that we have received the first of our new GO train cab cars. We’ve ordered 127 new train cars in total to grow those rail fleets to 67 new cab cars that will be put to service over the next two years expanding those fleets to 743 trains by 2018.”
The new rail cars are part of the provincial government’s $13.5 billion GO regional express plan announced in April.
