Gianfranco Piro remembered
We all have a teacher we’ve looked up to while we were in school.
Students at Hamilton’s Cardinal Newman high school — past and present — are mourning the death of someone they’ve admired.
Gianfranco Piro — a communications technology teacher — has lost his battle to cancer.
He had been fighting a brain tumour for nearly ten years.
Throughout his battle, both students and the community have gathered several times to raise funds for the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada.
Here is a quote one of his students wrote on Facebook:
“Mr Piro, you were a great teacher and a better friend. The students’ lives that you have touched will never forget what you did for them and you will always be remembered.”
Gianfranco Piro was 35 years old.
