Getting ready to make a New Year’s resolution

As the New Year approaches many are taking the opportunity to make some resolutions.

It’s a simple task, but actually sticking to your pledge may not be as easy.

Lifestyle coach Leanne Giavendoni says resolutions should be SMART ones.

That stands for Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Timed.

“They have to be very specific, so it’s not enough to say i want to lose weight. You have to be very specific, and it has to be measurable. So if you say “I want to lose 25 pounds” that’s not specific enough. You have to say “I want to lose 25 pounds in X number of weeks.”

She also recommends not recycling last year’s resolution.

“If you’ve always tried to achieve the same goal , especially like going to the gym, quitting smoking or losing weight, it maybe won’t work so well.”

Instead she recommends mixing it up and trying new things which could see the original goals come naturally.

Experts also say that writing down your goals, and sharing them with friends increases your chances of achieving them.
