We are learning more about the 18 year old gunman who killed nine people on Friday in Munich Germany and about the 27 year old Syrian man who blew himself up outside of a music festival in Southern Germany on Sunday injuring 15 people.
German authorities say the 18 year old gunman who went on a shooting rampage on Friday, was a depressed young man obsessed with mass shootings. It was originally thought that Ali David Sonboly was working with others but officials now say this was the work of one deeply disturbed individual. It’s believed he planned the attack for up to a year, and mostly targeted teens because he had been bullied. His neighbors say he was a loner.
Sonboly opened fire Friday afternoon at a McDonalds in Munich before moving to a crowded shopping mall using only a 9 mm handgun in his killing spree. He killed himself a few hours later in front of two police officers.
On Sunday, a 27 year old Syrian man who was denied asylum, blew himself up after being turned away from a music festival. It was the fourth violent attack in Germany in a week. The bomb was apparently inside of a backpack that he was carrying. It contained various pieces of sharp metal objects, possibly screws and nails. The Islamic state has claimed responsibility for the bombing.
German authorities say the investigations of the recent attacks have to be completed before determining whether new security measures in the country are needed.
