The community of Georgetown rallied together on Saturday to show their support for people suffering with ALS.

Eight families in Georgetown have members who are suffering from ALS, commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, a condition that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord.

Shari Balanowski’s husband Ervin was diagnosed with ALS earlier this year. Balanowski said she was inspired by “Ice Bucket Challenge”on social media to start collecting donations and raise awareness around research and finding a cure.
