Gay Lea foods has signed a deal to buy Hamilton-based Salerno Dairy.

Salerno is a family owned business that manufactures a number of Italian cheeses, including the brand Gos and Gris. The company also has warehouses and distribution centres in Montreal and Hannon, and employs 185 people.

It’s not clear how much Gay Lea bought the company for. Salerno CEO Angelo Fidanza says he believes the company will do an excellent job of carrying forward their dedication to fine cheese.
