Gas prices jump in Hamilton and GTA

A pain at the pumps Wednesday morning – as gas prices jumped four cents overnight.

“This would be the time that refineries pass on the cost associated with bringing in and introducing summer blend gasoline,” said Dan McTeague, senior petroleum analyst at GasBuddy.com.

“It does cost refineries a lot more money to buy and to process.”

This summer blend is less volatile and doesn’t expand or evaporate under warmer conditions.

The average price for gas in the Hamilton area is about $1.33 a litre — but you may be able to find it cheaper at some stations in the city.

“Some retailers will drop their retail margins, they can toy will about ten to 11 cents a litre — we often see that here in Hamilton and the Niagara Region,” said McTeague.

McTeague is predicting a one-cent increase overnight Wednesday and says prices could reach the $1.40 this summer.
