Starting today, consumers will no longer pay for carbon emissions at the pump.

Gas prices have dropped by just over 17 cents a litre this morning, bringing the average price to about $1.33 to $1.39 per litre.

This drop in price is expected to save drivers about $10 on a full tank of gas.

The tax was previously set to $80 per tonne, which equated to 17.6 cents a litre.

It has increased every year since it was first introduced in 2019.

The price was set to rise another $15 per tonne today, bringing it up to $95 per litre, but one of Mark Carney’s first actions as prime minister was to scrap the carbon tax.

Canadians will notice this reflected on their home heating bills and eventually on food prices, though this might take longer to take effect.

Canadians will get their final carbon tax rebate starting April 22.

A family of four in Ontario can expect to receive about $300.
