Gaming industry growth creates more career opportunities for youth

Mohawk College was providing a glimpse into the future of big league sports today.
The college held an esports tournament to go along with the news of its esports academic program, designed to prepare people for the future jobs of a booming worldwide video-game industry.
Video games have been drawing in gamers for decades with the same attractions any other sport offers, competition and camaraderie.
And now the games are hitting the big leagues as gamers around the world reach out for a share of competition prize money offered by game makers that can reach into the millions.
Analysts predict the value of esports will increase steadily in the future, offering money and opportunities.
To meet the demand, Mohawk College is starting up an esports program intended to prepare people for the industry, just as they would for any other sport.
They say it’s just like the NHL or other sports leagues. Only the best get to the top, and it helps to be in shape. Registration for Mohawk’s esports program opens in the fall and the program starts next year.
