Since 10-year-old Rosie Long suffered life-changing injuries after being hit by a bus on her bike ride to school on Nov. 7, a growing community of supporters created the Rosie Sparkles Fund in her honour.

A Go Fund Me page was created 10 days ago by the Long family to make their home wheelchair accessible for Rosie who has lost the use of her legs since the accident. The campaign raised $31,980 of its $50 thousand goal.

Her best friends and family organized a bake sale and sold raffle tickets on Sunday and were decked out with pink Rosie Sparkles t-shirts. According to the fund’s Facebook page, the band of friends impressively raised nearly $18 thousand all by themselves.

The Long family said in their Go Fund Me campaign that the money will go towards short and long-term medical and rehabilitation needs along with retrofitting their home for a wheelchair.

Rosie continues to recover in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at McMaster Children’s Hospital. Doctors said she could be released in a few weeks but would be transferred as a inpatient to the Bloorview Rehabilitation Centre in Toronto where they specialize in rehab for kids with spinal injuries.
