A special weather statement is in effect for Hamilton and Halton Region with freezing rain expected on Wednesday.

Environment Canada says freezing rain with ice accretion of 2 to 5 millimeters and rainfall is expected to hit parts of Southern Ontario starting Wednesday morning and last into the evening.

There could be 10 to 20 millimeters of rainfall which may lead to localized flooding.

Hamilton and Halton Region may also get hit by strong easterly winds gusting up to 60 km/h.

Ice accretion with gusty may result in localized power outages.

The weather agency says areas near the shores of Lake Ontario are likely to remain above the freezing mark, and as a result, should receive only rain.

The partially frozen ground may have a reduced ability to absorb this rainfall and localized flooding may be possible.
