Free course to curb lifeguard shortage at Hamilton waterpark

Hamilton’s Wild Waterworks is offering a free lifeguard course this March Break, as the park says it is facing a “critical lifeguard shortage”.
The National Lifeguard Certification course runs for just three days, from March 13 to 17, at McMaster University’s Ivor Wynne Centre pool.
The cost of the course is $100 but those who are successful at passing the course are guaranteed lifeguard employment at the park over the summer.
And if you work all summer, from April to Labour Day, the initial $100 cost is refunded.
Applicants are required to already have their Bronze Cross Certification as well as their Standard First Aid & CPR-C Certification.

“We have greatly decreased the cost of this course due to a critical lifeguard shortage, to make this course more accessible to future lifeguards,” Wild Waterworks says on their website.
At Wild Waterworks, lifeguards work to enforce rules, supervise, and provide an emergency response at various water attractions including the Wave Action Pool, Eazy River, Little Squirt Works wading pool, and six waterslides.
Wild Waterworks says it expects candidates to be up to date with first aid skills, swimming skills, and lifesaving techniques as certification is not guaranteed.
