Four rescued from sinking boat

Niagara Regional Police say their marine unit rescued four people on Lake Erie Friday morning.

The vessel had capsized about more than three kilometres off shore from Port Colborne. Two adults and two children, all wearing life jackets, were found clinging to the boat. Police say all are in good condition, and were safely returned to shore.

Scott Wolfe of the Port Colborne Marine Auxiliary Rescue Unit assisted the police marine unit.

“Great that the police made it there so quickly and for us it was a matter of picking up the debris and getting the boat back to shore.”

It turned out to be a summer boating excursion that this family won’t soon forget. Fortunately though, there were no injuries.
