Four people facing charges in connection to Mapleview mall robbery

Four people are facing charges in connection to a robbery at a Telus store in Mapleview mall and a subsequent police chase that took place April 22. Police are still searching for one additional person believed to be involved.

Officers say four men entered the store around 11:35 a.m. and began grabbing phones off the display cases. None of the men used weapons, and no injuries were reported after the incident.

The group left the mall in a white Honda CRV driven by a fifth person, which police later confirmed was reported stolen from Toronto.

After driving away from the scene of the robbery, the same car was involved in a single-vehicle crash in the area of the 403 and Trafalgar Road in Oakville.

The five people tried to run away from the crash, but were quickly located by responding police officers. No injuries were reported as a result of the collision.

Four of the five people are facing charges of dangerous operation, flight from a peace officer, robbery, possession of property obtained by crime, and disguise with intent.

Police have arrested and charged:

  • Bernardo Aquino, 19, of Toronto
  • Malik Patino, 19, of Ajax
  • A 15-year-old male, of Etobicoke
  • A 15-year-old male

Police are still looking for the fifth person believed to be involved. They were last seen running away from the crash wearing a Spiderman mask and a camouflage jacket.
