As the wildfire in Fort McMurray force residents out, many are leaving so fast they don’t have any clothes, food and water. Alberta Premier Rachel Notley says more than 16 000 structures have already been destroyed, but people’s safety is her top priority.

“Our focus right now is getting those folks out of the community”

And support from provinces across the country has been remarkable ever since the news of the disaster broke.

“Ontario will be dispatching 119 staff to Alberta this week- 100 firefighters, 19 support staff. Our hearts are with people in Alberta.” said Premier Kathleen Wynne.

But with the dispatch set for Friday, some people have been wondering if there be enough support for the magnitude of the disaster.

“Obviously we need to be aware of our own needs and be cautious of what may happen, so right now the number 119 arrived between the two groups.” said Bill Mauro.

This afternoon, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Canadian Force aircrafts have been put on standby.

“We have mobilized a certain number of aircrafts, as it becomes necessary.”

Earlier this morning, Trudeau said the support shared coast-to-coast highlights the generosity of Canadians.

“Canada is a country where we look out for our neighbors and we are there for each other in difficult times. And certainly in Fort McMurray, the difficult times they are going through right now is something that we are going to unite around.”

That unity was clear on social media as tweets with a link to the Red Cross website were trending.

The Red Cross says thousands of Canadians have already donated. It won’t be until a few more days until we find out just how much. They’re still encouraging people to head online to donate as much as they can.

“The money will help people find shelter, and essential goods and provide emergency assistance to the people in Fort McMurray.”

Red Cross volunteers in Ontario say they’re ready to help, if they get called-in.

“Right now we’re on stand by at a number of locations, and material pre-positioned.”

A group on Facebook has also been created, helping people who had to evacuate and find a new place to call home, at least for the next little while.
