The mother of a two-year-old Fort Erie girl beaten to death in 2011 is in court today.

Roseanne Whalen faces second-degree murder charges in the death of her daughter, Marissa, whose body was found on a Six Nations reserve.

Marissa was killed in June 2011, but wasn’t reported missing until months later.

Whalen’s former girlfriend, Rainbow Hill, has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and admitted she beat the young girl to death. She was sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 12 years.

Hill’s sister, Amanda Dipota, has pleaded guilty to accessory to murder.
