Niagara Regional Police say they have charged a Fort Erie man in connection with a stabbing that led to a police shooting.

Last month, Niagara Police responded to reports that a man had been stabbed at the urgent care centre of Douglas Memorial Hospital.

Police say 29 year-old Brandon Stewart has been charged with attempted murder and assault with a weapon. He is currently in custody awaiting a bail hearing.

The Special Investigations Unit says that when officers arrived at the hospital last month they saw a 61 year-old man with knife wounds and were quickly approached by a 29 year-old, who police are identifying as Brandon Stewart. There was some sort of interaction between police and Stewart when an officer shot him.

Niagara Police can’t release any other information as the SIU investigation is ongoing.
