Former St Catharines GM plant to be redeveloped

There are big plans for a former General Motors plant in St Catharines.

Bayshore Groups is planning a $250 million housing and commercial development. Starting Monday, it’s going to start removing and selling off equipment from the Ontario St plant.

Within 2 years, construction will start on retirement residences, apartment lofts, commercial business, and a technical trade school. First though, the developer needs a zoning amendment to change the area from industrial to multi-use.

GM closed the factory in 2010.
