Former NDP MPP Paul Miller pursuing legal action against Andrea Horwath

Former NDP MPP Paul Miller said he will be pursuing legal action against NDP Leader Andrea Horwath after he was ousted from the party in March.
Miller was kicked out of the NDP after what the party called a pattern of concerning behaviour including allegedly being part of a Facebook group against Islam.
Miller said he was never involved in any hate groups on Facebook.
Miller said his staff has always handled his social media accounts. He said he has hired lawyers and tech experts to look into the matter.
One of Paul Miller’s staff members handed a piece of paper to reporters on Wednesday which appears to be a screen capture of a Facebook notification of Paul Miller leaving a group that is against Islam. Miller said this is the only piece of evidence Andrea Horwath has against him.
An NDP senior party official tells CHCH News that they stand by what they’ve said on the matter and their decision. Horwath has previously said that Miller’s wife, Hamilton Wentworth District School Board trustee Carole Paikin-Miller was part of the concerning information discovered by the party.
Paikin-Miller has been asked to resign from the school board after an investigation found that she made anti-Muslim and racist comments. Miller says the allegations against him have nothing to do with his wife, adding that being ousted has caused him personal hardship.
“I will be pursuing multiple legal actions against Andrea Horwath and the NDP including wrongful dismissal, constructive dismissal, defamation… and multiple human rights violations,” Miller said.
Miller says he will run as an independent MPP in his Stoney Creek riding in the upcoming provincial election.
