Former babysitter charged with sexual assault in Burlington

A 55-year-old St. Catharines woman is facing several sex charges in relation to an alleged incident in 2000 involving a young boy.

Frances Maureen McNeil was arrested on Tuesday and charged with sexual assault, sexual interference and invitation to sexual touching.

Police say a victim came forward this month and alleges an assault took place when he was a 12-year-old boy.

Investigators say, at the time, McNeil was known by the name Maureen Crawley.

She worked as a babysitter in her home in Burlington between 1996 to 1998, and was known to babysit children in her neighbourhood.

Police would not confirm if the child was in McNeil’s care at the time of the alleged incident.
