Forge FC have reclaimed their spot at the head of the table, winning the Canadian Premiere League championship over the weekend.

The Hamilton-based soccer club won title number three last night in the nation’s capital with just under 15,000 spectators filling TD Place.

Hamilton beat Atlético Ottawa with a score of two nil.

Forge FC has played in every Canadian Premier League final in the four-year history of the league, winning the North Star Shield in 2019, 2020 and now 2022.

A first-half goal from Alessandro Hojabrpour along with a second-half shot from David Choiniere lifted Forge FC to the 2-0 win.

“Happiness. We worked all year for this. That was our goal since the beginning of the season and to achieve it, you feel accomplished,” Choiniere said.

Holding a 1-0 advantage to start the second half, Forge FC looked to increase that lead early in the second half, but two saves by Atlético keeper Nathan Ingham kept the differential at one.

In the 75th minute, Atlético came close to levelling the score, but Triston Henry made a spectacular stop against Sergio Camus Perojo off a feed from Olie Bassett.

“I just keep my head in the game and try not to overthink anything. When I saw the shot I just reacted and glad I made the save,” Henry said

It was a tough end for a very impressive season from Atlético Ottawa, who were last place in the Canadian Premier League last season.

Despite an excellent crowd in the nation’s capital, Ottawa was unable to lift the trophy in front of their home fans.
