Ford mispronounces Hamilton Mayor’s name

When Mayor Ford made the lewd comments during his morning news conference, you may have noticed he was wearing a Toronto Argos jersey. Shortly after, the Argos released a statement saying his remarks, while wearing the team’s jersey, are particularly disappointing. The Mayor also discussed the CFL Eastern Final between the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and the Argos this weekend. And he pronounced the name of Hamilton’s mayor incorrectly:

“I want to call Mayor Britannia and talk about how the Argos will spank the little Tiger-Cats.”

CHCH News spoke with Hamilton Mayor Bob Bratina and we asked him about the “Britannia” pronunciation. Mayor Bratina had no comment. But we also asked the Mayor about the ongoing Ford scandal and whether he thinks it’s had an impact on Toronto’s image. And when it came to the Tiger-Cats/Argos game this weekend, and a possible wager with Toronto’s Mayor, this is how he responded: “I haven’t heard directly from anyone at the Toronto Mayor’s office, and its not our intention to participate in any bets or anything like that, so I’ll be going to the game with the fans and cheering them on, but that’s the extent of that.”

Q: What do you think about the recent events in Toronto and how do you think they reflect on the city?

Mayor Bratina: “Well, I wouldn’t want to speak to another city, its for people to make up their own about. I’m not going to make a comment on that.”
