Food is a huge part of Hamilton’s culture and “foodie tourism” is taking off across the city. In fact, pairing the perfect meal with the right beverage has become a focal point.

The restaurant community is tight in Hamilton and they’re all pulling for each other to succeed. Malorie Edward works at Brux House on Locke Street in Hamilton and she’s passionate about beer. “We’ve got 16 different beers on tap, with a heavy focus on the Ontario craft scene. We represent a Belgium focus as well.”

Brux House joined a thriving Hamilton food and drink scene last November. “It’s nice to have options and variety, I mean there was a point where there was 2-3 places for a good meal, now the choices are endless.”

James Neal manages the “One Duke” in downtown Hamilton, he says times have changed and customers are seeking unique drinks to pair with their meals now. “It doesn’t matter what you’re pairing with your food, you can pair so much. As we continue to educate customers and the history of alcohol to the forefront it’s better for everyone.”

James and other members of the Hamilton Bartenders Association are hoping to meet monthly to offer support and share ideas, even though they’re in direct competition, restaurants in hamilton are all part of a tight supportive community.

So if it’s a tasty sandwich, a full meal, or a refreshing beverage, there are more choices than ever in the city.
